Maelstrom Respawned is a native Swift tribute to Ambrosia Software's 1992 arcade game Maelstrom. It recreates the drift-and-shoot arcade feel for modern Apple devices with independently written clean-room code. It is an unofficial fan tribute and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Ambrosia Software.
Is Maelstrom Respawned available now?
Yes, Maelstrom Respawned has been live on the App Store since June 10, 2026. The current release is version 1.1.0, published July 29, 2026. Download it from the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Does Maelstrom Respawned use the original game code or assets?
Maelstrom Respawned uses independently written clean-room code and credited CC BY 3.0 assets. Attribution to Maelstrom (1992), Andrew Welch, Ian Gilman, and Ambrosia Software appears in the app and App Store materials. The implementation is not a port of the original source code.
